Fun Pool Related Activities

Memorial Day weekend is almost here! With summer vacation just around the corner, now is a great time to start planning activities for your children (if you haven’t done so already). It can be difficult to keep children entertained through the long weeks of summer, especially those too young or with personalities that disallow them to find ways to entertain themselves. Having access to a swimming pool can work wonders with relieving boredom as well as providing fun ways for kids to get quality exercise.

Marco-Polo is perhaps the most well-known game played in the pool, but as my siblings and I got older we found it too easy in our above-ground small pool to tag each other. We ended up changing the game to not include calling out to one another, but instead trying to find the other players based on the sounds of their splashing or breathing.

Another fun pool activity for children is incorporating sports such as volleyball, baseball, or basketball in the pool. Using soft plastic equipment or equipment specifically meant for being used in the water will prevent injury. This offers children an interesting challenge as they have to overcome the resistance of being in the water.

Because water offers so much resistance, the muscles your children use in the pool have to work a lot harder to make a normal movement, such as walking. An activity that definitely incorporates this idea is turning your pool into a whirl pool. Everyone in the pool begins “jogging” in the same direction around the pool’s perimeter until a current is formed. As an extra benefit, after the “whirlpool” is made, any debris in your pool will be forced into the center, and will be easy to sweep up with the pool sweeper.

Remember that any time children are around water they need to be supervised, and that you should be certain of their swimming abilities before letting them swim in water they cannot stand in. Also remember that a pool your children swim in should be properly maintained and it’s chemical content regularly monitored. If water is not properly maintained it can harbor harmful bacteria or algae, or there can be risk of exposure to too much chlorine or other chemicals if those levels are not properly maintained. A good way to ensure that your pool is always safe and clean to swim in is to hire an expert local Cameron Park pool service company. This way you can rest assured that your children will never be exposed to unsafe water, and that your pool will be ready to swim in at any time.
